Feel the change
The VR Glacier Experience is an interactive virtual reality exhibition at the Diavolezza valley station in Pontresina that immerses visitors in the high alpine world of the Morteratsch Glacier. It impressively conveys the connections between climate change, glacier development, and water balance—scientifically sound and at the same time brought to life.
The exhibition was made possible as part of the #gkb2020 anniversary project of Graubündner Kantonalbank and developed in collaboration with Zurich University of the Arts and the University of Fribourg. It is open daily and free of charge, with the aim of raising awareness of the consequences of climate change and imparting knowledge about glaciers, water, and future scenarios.
New exhibition in planning – Amazement and understanding
The Bernina Glaciers Experience invites you to enter this fascinating mountain world. It shows how closely the elements are intertwined: snow turns to ice, ice turns to water, and water shapes the world. But this cycle, once seemingly unchanging, is now undergoing change. Temperatures are rising, glaciers are retreating, and the structure of these sensitive systems is shifting. What used to take centuries is now happening in a matter of decades – with far-reaching consequences for the landscape and its people. Through encounters with historical traces, current scientific findings, and sensory experiences, it becomes clear how climate change is affecting the alpine landscape.
This exhibition is an invitation to marvel, interact, and reflect. It allows visitors to experience the power of the forces of nature at work here and, at the same time, the vulnerability of the system. Impressive images, models, sounds, and stories come together to create a gripping and stirring narrative about the Bernina Glaciers adventure region.
