Dr. sc.nat. ETH Felix Keller
Association President
is a glaciologist and teacher at Academia Engiadina, as well as a teacher of environmental science at ETH Zurich. Along with his scientific work, Felix Keller volunteers with the GlaciersAlive association and works as the managing director of Gletschervision.

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Hans Oerlemans
studied geophysics and mathematics at Utrecht University (NL) and received his doctorate summa cum laude in 1980 with a thesis entitled “Some model studies on the ice age problem.” Since 1994, he has been working on the Morteratsch Glacier and organising an annual summer school for glaciologists, for which the International Society for Glaciology awarded him the “Richardson Medal” in 2019.

Richard Lehner
worked for many years as a journalist and in public relations for a large environmental organization. Today he is an author, librarian, and communications consultant.

Suryanarayanan Balasubramanian
lives in India (Ladakh) and earned his doctorate at the University of Fribourg, where he developed hardware and software solutions for the efficient construction of ice stupas. With his start-up Acres of Ice, he is addressing the water crisis in mountain communities caused by glacier retreat.

Sonam Wangchuk
Honorary President
is an Indian (Ladakh) engineer, environmentalist, and inventor. He invented the Rolex Award-winning Ice Stupa. Ice Stupas store sparse melt water from glaciers in winter so that it can be used again in agriculture in spring.

Chantal Hirt
is a certified tourism specialist and mountaineer. She became acquainted with the GlaciersAlive association through her studies at the HFT in Samedan and her internship at the Center for Applied Glaciology. Within the association, she is responsible for member administration and assists with the organization of excursions.
