A weekend of hard work: the Ice Stupa is taking shape

This weekend at GlaciersAlive was all about working together. Alongside our Annual General Meeting, we also built the basic framework for this season’s Ice Stupa with the help of many enthusiastic volunteers.

At the Annual General Meeting, we looked back on past projects, discussed new initiatives and upcoming events, and took a look together at the coming year for the association. Afterwards, we got straight down to work on the Diavolezza.

This year, the Ice Stupa will not be built in exactly the same spot as last winter. It will still be located at the Diavolezza valley station, but will be moved slightly. But how is the basic framework actually constructed? In our gallery, you can follow the process step by step as the base for the Ice Stupa takes shape from individual wooden elements:

First, the tripod for the water supply is set up. Next, the wood is tied together and shaped into semicircles. Then the outer rings are attached, and the basic framework is complete.

The Ice Stupa isn’t visible yet. But with this first step, the foundations have been laid. Soon, it will once again become our impressive ice tower.
