Rückblick auf die Musikstubete

A look back at the Musikstubete

Successful Musikstubete at the Tuoi hut

This Saturday, our Musikstubete organized by GlaciersAlive took place at the beautiful Tuoi hut and it was a really great event! The hut is located at 2250 meters above sea level and offers a beautiful view, with the Piz Buin in the background. It was the perfect setting to combine the glaciers with the music.

While preparations were being made at the hut, the participants set off on the 2.5-hour hike to the hut. Once at the top, everyone got ready to start the music program. From Swiss songs to Nordic melodies and Ukrainian sounds, the variety was huge.

The majority of the musicians were played by the Swiss Ice Fiddlers a group that regularly performs together. With violins, guitars, saxophone, double bass and accordion, they created a harmonious sound that delighted everyone. Later in the afternoon, we were joined by three hikers, one of them from Ukraine. It was all the nicer that we were able to play a Ukrainian song for this man. Whether visitors, musicians or hut wardens, we all laughed, played music, sang and danced together. That was exactly our aim: to create a link between music and glacier protection with an experience that everyone could enjoy.

After an eventful day, we enjoyed a delicious dinner, accompanied by music, and spent the night in the cozy Tuoi hut.

Microplastic-free fleece covers in the test

Fleece covers are one of the only successfully implemented methods of preserving snow and glaciers by protecting the underlying snow from melting.

Solar radiation is reflected by the white material, and on average 50-60% of the snow underneath can be preserved. Fleece covers are already being used in various ski resorts. They have been used successfully on the Diavolezza glacier in the Upper Engadine in Switzerland for more than 10 years.

Work has been underway for years to make the fleece covers more sustainable. Such covers are now in use on the Diavolezza glacier and their effectiveness is being compared with the older covers using drones. What makes the new covers more sustainable? They do not contain any microplastics.

Winterwandern, Gletschermusik & Ice Stupa Spass

Winter hiking, glacier music & ice stupa fun

Spending a day with people who are interested in the glacier world, global water supply and outdoor activities? The perfect day for us!

On Saturday, our day began with a snowshoe hike at the Diavolezza valley station, which took us to the Ice Stupa, our main attraction of the day. Not even the strong wind could stop the motivated group from having fun. On the way, the participants learned more about Ice Stupas, Ladakh and its water supply. Back in the warmth, there was glacier music from the TangoGlaciar Duo, whose music melted hearts instead of ice.

The day was far from over, as we continued with a lecture on the origins and significance of the Ice Stupas. The ice stupas are of particular importance for the Himalayan region. With the disappearance of the glaciers, large water reservoirs are being lost, which poses ever greater problems for irrigation in the barren heights of the Himalayas, especially in the Ladakh region. This is where the ice stupas come into play as innovative water reservoirs.

After looking at the Ice Stupas in pictures, it was time to see the real Ice Stupa from the inside. A 13-metre-high mass of ice, lighting that made the icicles inside shine even brighter and a warm drink awaited the guests. Finally, we ended the day with barley soup and glacier music.
